Question: Does it take more water, less water, or the same amount of water to cover and irregular surface than it does to cover a regular surface of the same volume?
Research: Gravity pulls water to the low places leaving the high places exposed
Hypothesis: I think it will take more water to cover the irregular surface than it takes to cover the regular surface.
Test:To test this idea we took a plastic container and put sand in it.
We smoothed the sand to make it fairly even.
Then we added enough water to completly cover the sand.
We observed that the sand was completly covered by the water.
Next, we moved some of the sand over to one side.
We observed that the water no longer covered all the sand. The sand that was piled high was exposed.
Just for fun we built Mt. Everest.
Analisis: The sand that was piled up stuck out of the water even though no water or sand was added or taken away.
Conclusion: We would need to add more water to cover the irregular surface. It takes more water to cover an irregular surface that it does to cover a regular surface of the same volume.
